Garrett’s Top 10 Qualities for a Wife

Hey guys, this is Garrett Bettencourt. I was asked to share my top ten traits for a wife. I’m not really a list guy, so I had to brainstorm my must have’s. But this is what I came up with. (After dating many women, this list is my non-negotiable qualities I’m seeking in a wife.)

  1. A Jesus lover. My relationship with Jesus rescued me from self-destruction. So, she needs to love Jesus, too.
  2. Humble. Let’s face it, I’ve struggled in my youth and early twenties to receive correction, but I’ve discovered it makes me a better person. I’m working on embracing humility, so want a wife who values this trait too.
  3. Great communicator. I haven’t excelled in this area, but I’m working hard to communicate better, especially because I want strong relationships. So, having a wife who values healthy communication is a must. Don’t you agree?
  4. Attractive. I want to be drawn to her in every way: physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.
  5. Value inner healing. My parents’ marital struggles during my teens is a backdrop to me valuing counseling and inner healing ministries. Once I met with a counselor regularly, I saw the value of addressing traumas and experiencing inner healing. I’m looking forward to pre-marital counseling and even further marital counseling if necessary.
  6. Family-oriented. I want kids and want my wife to enjoy spending time with our families. After my experience with Presleigh, I prefer our families get along.
  7. Nature Lover. This is a given since I’m a nature and wildlife enthusiast. Give me the woods and deer, and I’m a happy guy.
  8. Enjoys traveling. Since I’m spending more time pursuing wildlife photography, I’d like my wife to come.
  9. Flexible. Although I don’t expect my wife to be as spontaneous as I am, I’d like her to be flexible, especially if plans suddenly change. I’ve experienced great adventures by being spontaneous.
  10. Adventurer. I like outdoor adventure-type sports like rock climbing, kayaking, skiing, backpacking, so I want my wife to at least try these experiences once.

Bonus: (I needed to add these three too.)

11.) Values my dad’s jokes: Every man wants his woman to laugh at his jokes. I have an arsenal of puns, so I got to share them with my love.

12.) Dog-Lover: This is something I can’t negotiate especially because I have my lab, Gabby.

13.) Attend a contemplative retreat: I recently completed one for a long weekend and it changed my life! I discovered how much I need to slow down, train my soul to embrace silence, and connect with God deeper. I’d like to experience this retreat with my wife annually.
