Spring is my favorite time of the year. The weather is mild (usually in the 60-70′s), flowers and trees bloom, and the fauna have babies.
Since I walk Sadie, our goldendoodle, (who turns one tomorrow!) along the pond, I witness new life almost daily. Currently, the lilies along the embankment have blossomed, adding a splash of sunshine to the pond. The redbud trees had sprouted with majestic fuchsia flowers, giving a dramatic splash to the area, albeit the blossoms only lasted a few weeks.(Sadie knows this area well, and always sniffing and inspecting what’s new.)
I enjoyed walking past this redbud tree (our state’s official tree) for a few weeks, but now the blossoms are gone. They are glorious when they bloom!
The ducks and Canada geese have babies, so it’s fun to watch the younglings waddling and swimming along their parents. Since I was chased by an angry goose as a child, I got nervous walking past the Canada geese when we first moved here a few years ago. But now, I’ve gotten used to them and walk past them in peace. In March, however, a Canada goose hissed at Sadie and charged at her. I yelled at the goose to leave her alone, as I led Sadie away. Now, I realize the male goose was protecting an egg nest, since we were near the pond.
Inspired by the beauty, I’m warming up my gardening skills. (I’ve never had a green thumb, but I’m going to experiment.) I planted primroses and a star jasmine, and hopefully once we install a dip system, I’ll have hydrangea bushes in our front yard (probably this fall or next spring). I refuse to be intimidated by gardening since I want to infuse beauty to our property. Stayed tuned especially next spring!
What do you grow in your garden?
