Since I have multiple food allergies, I loved leaning into the challenge and opportunity of contributing to an anthology including holiday recipes. I hope Sophie’s story encourages folks struggling to relate to their own or others’ allergies or discouragements in a season when food and light hearts are so integral to fellowship.
It was great fun to write a story featuring Sophie, Sam, and Vi, supporting characters in a novel en route to publication, recasting the Genesis account of Leah into the 2000s and exploring questions of disability and disappointment. I’m donating my anthology proceeds to Joni and Friends (joniandfriends.org).
